Claude Wilde

Claude Wild is a retired Swiss Ambassador who holds degrees in political science and international relations as well as in international security policy from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva.
As a military officer he served in two UN peacekeeping operations in Namibia (UNTAG) and Western Sahara (MINURSO) before joining the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1992.
His 33 years long diplomatic career ended with his retirement in 2025. As a diplomatic officer he served in Lagos (covering Nigeria, Benin and Togo), Vienna, Moscow (covering the Russian Federation, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), Ottawa, Brussels (EU affairs) and in 3 different positions at the FDFA in Berne (dealing with development policy, peacekeeping and peace-building operations as well as Swiss-EU relations).
In 2010 Claude Wild was appointed to the rank of Ambassador to become Head of the Human Security Division at the FDFA in Berne, dealing with human rights, peace-building, international migration and humanitarian policy. In August 2015, he took up the post of Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Switzerland to the OSCE, the UN and other International Organizations in Vienna. In September 2019, he was appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, residing in Kyiv. From April 2023 until September 2025 he then served as Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
