
Francesc Claret

Francesc is the Head of the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the United Kingdom and Ireland based in London. Before joining the Catalan government, he worked at the UN for over twenty years. At HQ, he was the Team Leader of the Policy Planning Unit in the UN Department of Political Affairs during the review of peace operations and the sustaining peace agenda. He also served in DPA’s Mediation Support Unit as well as in the Department for Disarmament Affairs and in the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa. Francesc worked in the peace operations in Angola and the DRC and with UNRWA in Palestine. His last UN assignment was in the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, where he headed the Medellin Regional Office and, later, the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Colombia. Francesc holds a PhD in Legal Theory (Leiden University), an LLM in International Criminal Law (University of Sussex), an MA in International Relations (University of Amsterdam) and a BA (Hons) in Political Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
