Supporting inclusive peace processes through evidence, innovation and creativity.
As an inspirational companion, expert facilitator, innovative knowledge broker, and well-connected convenor, InclusivePeace supports local actors and their supporters in times of political transitions, opening up spaces for exchange on inclusive societies and sustaining peace, at both the local and global levels. It does so by providing advice, facilitation and connectedness linking short-term problem-solving with a strategic view to pathways to inclusive societies under the lead of Dr. Thania Paffenholz.
HOW WE WORK
The problem we want to address:
Violence and political tension are causing severe crises and major setbacks on democratic rights. Exclusion is at the heart of these crises, yet existing strategies to address them often use technical means that treat symptoms rather than political responses to address root causes, and are therefore failing to build lasting peace.
Our vision: all countries move on pathways towards peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
To inspire, support, and connect local people, networks and organizations and those that support them at critical junctures, in order to increase opportunities and collective impact, remove obstacles, and overcome resistance, both globally and locally.
Peace process support at critical junctures, and providing physical and virtual spaces and resources for experience exchange and reflection to empower and connect individuals, organizations, networks, movements and other actors to become more effective agents of emancipatory change.
We provide cutting-edge advice, facilitation, access to vast multiple networks, and exchange spaces based on our internationally-renowned research, and our practitioner and policy work in comparing and advising on peace processes around the world since the early 1990s.
Starting from respect for local contexts and leadership, we want to change the functioning of the institutional and operational field of peacemaking and peacebuilding to create preconditions for short and long-term inclusion and sustainable peace. In so doing, InclusivePeace protects both its reputation and that of its partners through its provision of sound expertise and by being independent and non-partisan, which also helps its partners to develop their own contextual experiences and creative options.
Our values and principles:
We take a non-competitive and lean engagement approach to complement or feed into existing processes. We maintain strict confidentiality when working with individual actors and networks, while at the same time being appropriately transparent about the Association’s multiple actors’ engagement (even in the same country) and transfer experiences into generic open access resources.
InclusivePeace is a membership-based association constituted under Swiss law and registered in Geneva (and in the process of registering in Kenya) with a global and local focus and reach, and a lean, flexible, and decentralised operational structure, underpinned by diligent governance and systematic monitoring. Our operations are directed by a voluntary executive committee and implemented by an employed executive office made up of a small number of core staff combined with a network of associates and volunteers. InclusivePeace is funded from earmarked projects and non-earmarked core support and has a framework agreement with FSD for all its financial and administrative management.
